Bread Care

Fresh Bread

Fresh bread should be stored at room temperature for the best-tasting product. The best place to store fresh bread is in a dark, dry place like a breadbox or cupboard. Bread should be eaten within 2 days or else frozen. Older and slightly staled bread will benefit from heating. To crisp the crust, place bread directly onto the oven rack in preheated oven at 350 degrees F for 5-10 minutes.

Freezing Bread

Bread that will not be eaten within a few days should be frozen. There are several methods that we recommend. If it is bread that you will be toasting, pre-slice the bread and flash freeze the slices for 20 minutes. Then these slices can be placed into a plastic bag and frozen for several months. Whole loaves can be placed directly into plastic bags and frozen.

Unfreezing Bread

Frozen slices can be removed and placed directly into the toaster. Frozen bread loaves should be removed from the freezer about one hour before serving. Just before serving, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and place the thawed loaf directly onto the oven rack for 5-10 minutes. Remove from the oven and wait a few minutes before serving.
